It’s Officially Summer Vacation!

Summer-KC-HeroBanner-1220x450

“Summer vacation (also called summer holiday or summer break) is a school holiday in summer between school years and the longest break in the school year. Students and instructors are off school typically between 6 and 14 weeks, depending on the country and district. In America, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Romania and Russia, the summer break is normally three months, compared to six to eight weeks in Australia, Britain, The Netherlands, Canada, and Germany.” – Wikipedia

So are we thankful our break is 3 months long or are you jealous of Australia, Britain, The Netherlands, Canada and Germany?!!

Are you ready?

An article on Realtor.com really interested me today! We all know the famous Pennsylvania groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, did not see his shadow, right?  If his prediction was correct and we do indeed have a warm February, this is recipe for a early spring housing market.  Buyers and sellers need to prepare for this! According to Realtor.com, past data indicates that if February temperatures are above average, then home sales could show a 60% growth compared to 2015. Are you ready?

Let me help you! Contact me today so I can walk you through the entire process of buying and/or selling a home. I am your “new reason to trust real estate.”

Aside

I had a wonderful holiday season this year! It started out the week before Thanksgiving with an Appreciation Party that I hosted with my friend and co-worker, Cynthia Lopez. We had all our past clients join us at Texas Restaurant in Richardson for wonderful food, music, drinks and socializing. I also invited my leadership from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Chi Zeta Omega Chapter where I serve as president.

I attached some of my favorite pictures for you to see. This is an tradition and looking forward to my event next year as well!  Each guest left with a Poinsettia to get them in the holiday spirit along with a $10 token to bring back to use at Texas at a later date.

I hope each of you made many memories this holiday season. I am still praying and thinking about all the people that were affected by the tornadoes last week. If you need anything please let me know!

Enjoy my slideshow and don’t forget to contact me if I can assist you with any real estate needs!

Thank you for following my blog. Until 2016!

Random Acts of Kindness

Even though Random Acts of Kindness week isn’t until February 14th, I wanted to go ahead and participate now! The truth is for years I have suffered from seasonal depression. But this year I have felt great. I believe that doing community service projects all year long has lifted my spirits. When I share and give to others, I feel better. You should try it too!

I got the idea to do Random Acts because a friend of mine’s daughter left her a note that said “These are all rinsed. Random acts of kindness.” Something little like helping with the dishes can make someone’s day. And remember, this is something the whole family can enjoy doing.

Need some ideas?
*Treat someone to fresh fruit
*Put gas in someone’s car
*Sing Christmas carols at a nursing home
*Buy something for the person in line behind you
*Rake your neighbor’s yard
*Cook a meal for someone
*Give warm clothes, shoes and boots to the homeless
*Renew a friendship
*Facebook message a genuine compliment to some friends
*Leave a nice server the biggest tip you can afford
*Talk to the shy person at the party
*Adopt a rescue pet
*Send a care package to a soldier
*Bring holiday sweets to work
*Help the stressed parent by babysitting one night
*Leave a whole bunch of pennies heads-up for kids to find on the sidewalk
*Go to your friend’s kid’s event
*Send dessert to another table
*Give away stuff for free on Craigslist
*Decorate for the holidays
*Give someone a book you think they would like
*Spread the goodness!

Don’t worry, I am going to complete many Random Acts of Kindness this month….and hopefully every month. Just today I was standing in line for the restroom and I let the lady behind me go before me.

I love scrolling through the internet to see what others have done. I have attached some of my favorites. Would you mind sharing with me different Random Acts of Kindness that you either gave or received?

As always, I am never too busy to take care of any of your real estate needs! Contact me anytime, especially during the holiday season. It would make me happy to help you!

Winnipeg, Canada – Two World Cup Games & One Friendly Tournament

Congratulations to the US Women’s Soccer team on winning the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup! This rematch of the 2011 championship game was much different as the US women dominated most of the game. More fans were glued to their TV’s than any other sporting event since the 2004 World Series. What’s more, I am among the fortunate who can say that I went to the World Cup in 2015 and watched the first two US games live!

My daughter’s soccer coaches from Mutiny FC decided about two years ago that the girls should go to the World Cup. The parents chuckled and moved on to the next topic, thinking that would never really happen. But, the coaches didn’t let it go. Thanks to family and friends from all over the Wylie, Sachse, Murphy, Allen, Rockwall, McKinney, and Allen area, our girls raised over $10,000 in different fundraisers! On June 7th, we were off to Winnipeg, Canada for one week to witness the top ladies of US soccer beat Australia 3-1 and tie Sweden 0-0. What an experience for the 20 young players and for the parents, too!

In addition, the girls played in an International Friendly Tournament. My definition of a “Friendly” Tournament is where you play hard, hopefully beat the other team and then you take pictures together with your new long distance friends/rivals. The girls definitely were inspired from watching the US Women’s team because they tied two older Minnesota teams and beat two older teams from the Winnipeg Club. We sent a clear message…Don’t Mess With Texas Soccer!

Our team held two game watching parties for the Semi-Finals and the Finals. One was at Buffalo Wild Wings in Garland and the other was at Two Rows in Allen. Thank you to those restaurants for tolerating the screaming! It was an amazing experience to cheer on our US team to victory. No one wanted the experience to end but what AMAZING memories we have made this summer! Now planning begins for the San Diego Surf Cup in July 2016:)

Ideal Mother’s Day

My ideal Mother’s Day would include trying a new restaurant the night before so it would be less crowded. On the actual Mother’s Day I would like to take a trip to the nursery followed by the family helping me plant my summer garden. Get your gardening gloves out kiddos! I hope the rain holds off this weekend…

The website www.houzz.com surveyed more than 750 moms to find out what their ideal Mother’s Day would be. Almost half the moms would enjoy a special meal at home with their partner and children. Gifts? It was a pretty close response between, a homemade gift from their house/garden, personal gift such as clothes or jewelry, no gift at all or something for the whole family to enjoy. Guess what gift received the most response for the whole family to enjoy? A tree!

Comment and let me know:

1. What is your ideal Mother’s Day?

2. What gift do you want for Mother’s Day?

3. What should I plant in my summer garden?

What a blessing to have so many selfless mothers in this world. Even if they don’t tell you enough, you are all appreciated everyday by your family! Enjoy your Mother’s Day this weekend, rain or shine!

Need Spring Break Ideas?

Are you wondering what you will be doing over Spring Break to entertain the family? I have listed 10 of my best ideas (with the help of www.visitdallas.com) to help you fill your calendar!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

  1. The Dallas Arboretum is one of my favorite places to visit anytime of the year. Over Spring Break, though, besides seeing the Dallas Blooms (the breathtaking floral display with over 500,000 spring-blooming bulbs!) you can also attend “Molly Ringwalds: The World’s Greatest 80’s Tribute Band.” They will be in concert on March 12 at 7 p.m. They are in town all the way from Sheffield, England. This is a concert you won’t want to miss if you love the 80’s!
  2. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is always a venue you can count on for the best performances! Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet will be playing from March 12 to March 15 at 7:30 p.m. Case Scaglione, Associate Conductor of the New York Philharmonic, makes his conducting debut. As her debut with the DSO, pianist Lucille Chung performs young Dallas composer Chase Dobson’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Dobson is currently studying at Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts, and his works have been heard around Dallas and nationally on the radio program From the Top. If you love music like I do, then make time to go see this!
  3. Who doesn’t love the zoo? The Dallas Zoo is offering a WILD TIME! There are more than 2,000 animals to see and 106 acres to explore. “DinoSOAR” will debut with a wildlife show, featuring guests interacting with exotic animals, from rare African birds to giant capybaras. The young ones would love this!
  4. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza is hosting a “CSI Family Day” on March 15th from 12 to 5 p.m. They have partnered with the UNT Forensic Science Program and set up a crime scene that you and your family have to solve…someone sets a fire at the circus, an ambassador is poisoned at a state dinner…
  5. Now this is different! The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum is presenting the Samurai Collection. Kids and adults can make their own samurai armor, fold origami creations, and participate in several Japanese folk traditions that originate from the time of the samurai! Connect with your inner-warrior and learn about the fascinating culture of the samurai with this world-renowned collection of samurai armor. March 10th- 13th 11AM- 4PM. Free to the public.
  6. Have you ever tried Painting with a Twist? This would be a fun ladies-night out or a family day event. You can bring your own food and drinks. The calendar is booked with everything from owls to phone booths! Go give your creative side a go!
  7. Have a high school student that likes to act? The Latino Cultural Center is having a Spring Break Intensive that will run from March 9 to 13 from 10 to 5 p.m. with a final performance on March 14th held at the Latino Cultural Center. They are accepting a limited number of high school students for this free spring break program. It will focus on vocal strength, improvisation, physicality, playwriting and acting. For information on how to enroll your student, please contact Jessica Trevizo at jessica.trevizo@dallascityhall.com or at 214-670-7952.
  8. What about relaxing in a folding chair while you watch your kiddo play soccer? Mutiny FC is hosting a Spring Break Soccer camp from March 9th to 12th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Founders Park in Wylie. To register for this event just click here. This is my daughter’s soccer club…Go Mutiny!
  9. The Dallas Arts District is kicking off Spring Break by closing their streets for a dayime block party on March 7th from 10:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be activities such as family yoga, scavenger hunts, art-making and guided tours. Outdoor musicians will also be there. Come hungry! Many of the town’s best food trucks will be there with plenty of food!
  10. And my last suggestion is to visit the George W. Bush Presidential Center. This is a must for all Dallas area residents. Learn all about President and Mrs. Bush and the American Presidency, explore the interactive museum galleries, sit in the Oval Office, enjoy the Texas Rose Garden, eat at the exquisite Café 43 restaurant and take a stroll through our 15-acre park filled with native Texas prairie grasses and wildflowers.

Hopefully these ideas will keep you and your family busy over Spring Break. And of course, if I can help you with any of your REAL ESTATE needs, just contact me so I can assist you!  I am never too busy for your business!

Revive That Linen Closet!

Does your linen closet look like this?

messycloset

If so, it’s time to fix it. I will show you some tips and examples of ways to declutter and revive that linen closet!

First, I would take out all items so you can clean, clean, clean. Wipe down and dust the shelves, then vacuum and mop the floor. Might as well start with a fresh and clean slate.

Second, sort through all the items that you took out of the closet. Make sure to get rid of linens, sheets and pillows that are soiled, torn or don’t have matches. You can make a goodwill and trash pile while you are sorting.

For the items that you are keeping, fold them very nicely.

Tip: Only keep two sets of sheets per bed in your house.

Tip: Put a whole sheet set into the pillowcase of that same set.

Third, use baskets or another storage container to keep items sorted in closet. Make sure to label them to best fit your family.

basketlabel2 basketlabel

Last, start placing items back into the closet. Try to group items together according to use. For the items that are not in a basket, you could always label the shelf.

Tip: Place a small stepladder inside the closet so you can easily reach the top shelves.

Tip: Bolt some towel racks on the inside of the door to hang a few extra items.

towelracks

Tip: Adjustable shelves would help you best optimize your space.

adjustableshelves

If you do not have a linen closet, or the one you have just isn’t spacious enough, try these ideas…an armoire, free-standing dresser or some bookshelves.

armoire armoire2bookshelf

You could even build some drawers and cabinets at the end of a hallway.

hallway

The small drawers can hold the smaller items while the cabinets can store the larger items.

Tip: Create a linen cupboard in the kitchen.

This allows you to store tablecloths on hanging racks and napkins and placemats in the drawers. A contractor can remodel a space for you costing about $300 or you could D-I-Y with some cheaper versions.
